"That’s why this winter heat is concerning. The warming trend will continue for at least as long as we keep burning fossil fuels and polluting the atmosphere."

Scott, the current warming spike is due to the Hunga Tonga volcano eruption that sent 150million tons of water into the stratosphere.
water vapour is the major greenhouse gas comprising 95% of greenhouse gasses, Hunga Tonga added another percent or two.

Most of the warming is natural, we have been warming since the end of the little ice age in 1680, the industrial revolution and increasing CO2 began in 1850.
CO2 adds to the warming, the ESC figure for CO2 is 0.7C per doubling. we were at 280ppm so we need to get to 560ppm for CO2 to add 0.7C.
CO2 follows warming so most of the additional CO2 that we are seeing is released from the oceans as they warm, the percentage of additional CO2 from Humans is 3% or 4ppm.

The graph is contrived with the BOM lowering the temperatures in the early parts of the 20th century, the later temperatures are affected by the urban heat island effect and badly cited weather stations.

The mild warming has been largely beneficial.

If you have weather stations situated in pristine environments away from urban effects like this US network you get a chart like this.......
