subject to the same physical laws.

If they're on earth, yes. But if they're more technologically advanced, then they can probably bend space and time, pop in and out of dimensions and do all sorts of things we can't. To us it looks like the laws of physics are broken, but are they? If you showed a smart phone to someone from 500 years ago, they'd think you were a wizard or alien who could break the laws of physics. They'd feel very threatened and insecure. But it's just a phone!

I know of people who have had real experiences and there was nothing non-substantial about those experiences. Those people were terrified and deeply rattled, feeling that the foundation of their world views had fallen apart.

This is important. Real spiritual breakthroughs are not a walk in the park. They are deeply unsettling, regardless of the religion or spiritual practice. It basically amounts to dying whilst alive. The thing that dies is not the body but the ego - ie. who we think we are. When we die, we're forced to let go of the ego. We don't get a choice. People who resist that process have a very difficult time. In the end we have to let go of everything except consciousness.
