I don't think there's any intention to put that Nyobolt car into production, I think it was just made as a concept to help promote the Nyobolt batteries which is what they'll be producing. And yes the similarity with a Lotus is because it's basically a tweaked Lotus Elise with the same designer as the original.

Something interesting about Nyobolt (apart from the connection with the former Talga employee) is that all of the hype about their super fast charging capabilities was the niobium based battery chemistry (including niobium anodes) that the company was founded on.

What most of the reporting a couple of months ago about this super-fast charge battery seemed to miss is that the battery they are going to commercialise uses a graphite anode and by the look of it no niobium at all. Like usual the reality of making a battery that will actually get put into an EV at scale is different to the hype, and it all comes back to lithium (in this case NMC) and graphite.

"Nyobolt has developed applications based on both graphite and niobium anodes. Both these solutions provide fast charging capabilities. Nyobolt concept EV is based on graphite-dominant anode solution and, therefore, very minimum impact on energy density with over 4,000 cycles (from 0 to 100% charge)."

Nyobolt's CCO referred to the fast-charge cycles the company talked about on June 28, so the niobium anodes were not involved with that. Curiously, most lithium-ion cells use graphite in their anodes, which would make the company's cells rather ordinary and subject to dendrite formation, the main problem lithium-ion cells face. Considering how current batteries have a much more limited lifespan, there must be something more to Nyobolt's cells that explains the improved performance they present. Nyobolt just said it dodged dendrite
formation and achieved its amazing numbers with its "proprietary anode technology with ultra-low impedance cell design."
