David Flanagans original focus was Pilbara style hard rock iron ore not canga. Long before AMD had really focused on canga (because as I predicted unlikely any high -grade hard rock at Sim North ) I had identified the canga potential based on the exceptionally great work by Sable -as far as I am concerned the Bible on canga in Guinea. David hadn't even read it and I am not sure he or his team have now. Nor did he understand the extent of canga in Guinea which is clearly visible on Google Earth across about 70% of the Guinea land mass. Then he pounced on canga but it's all low grade across the tablelands -struggle street when there is miles and miles of high- grade DSO canga.
Sable proved about 200 million tonnes of 59% Fe canga JORC within which about 20 million tonnes of 62% Fe all of which is simple DSO that doesn't need expensive capital cost to beneficiate. With similar multi -user rail and even road a short distance to a number of Liberian ports. HPX are spending $3-5 billion on new rail network. Or they were before iron ore collapsed
If AMD are going to be successful with iron ore in Guinea they need to change their strategy - focus on the high elevations where you get high grade canga in streams as Sable have from Mt Nimba in most cases 62% Fe and as we do at Beyla with elevations like Simandou. Or the high grade hard rock like HPX have with 400 million tonnes of 65% Fe within which a significant tonnage of 68% Fe. Or like Arcelor Mittal shipping out of Buchanan.
Anyway it's all academic -no doubt in my mind AMD have switched horses to bauxite and that won't work either -with every passing day patently obvious China is melting down -even Temu now reflecting a big drop in consumer spending. It's all gold -the only game left in town.
I will bet its gold next for AMD in Guinea
