''are you saying that we should forget all about climate change? that we shouldn't bother reducing emissions?

    this reads like defeatism.''

call it what you like ------------ IMO, the battle is lost

let me tell you what is going to happen - we are going to have climate change - biggly

we know this - we KNOW that the AMOC among other big drivers is going to stall - that is beyond doubt or argument ------------ when?

well that's the ? atm - but, probably inside of a century ---------------- and might be alarmingly closer - like really closer

but, whilst a century sounds like a long time ----------- think about what we need to do when it happens

the building of infrastructure to handle such a change or and the relocation of hundreds, maybe billions of humans - will generate far far more emissions than before

will we think about climate change and reducing emissions when we have to rehouse billions? ------------ or they die?

no way - particularly when there's massive profit in rehousing

whilst it matters not if I say we 'should' or 'should not' forget about emissions - the fact is - we will

one has to understand when a battle is lost ---------------------- look at the temperatures now and the rate of rise -

    the 'battle' is already lost

what one needs to be doing now is to be organising for the survivors of the defeat

you call it defeatism ------------- I call it planning
