Pete222, Given the billions you say Howard had in the kitty (from our taxes ) how come the big pension increases didnt happen during his term of government? Even his successor Dr Brendan Nelson said that pensioners had to live off baked beans and took a can to Parliament. In any event the credit for fiscal responsibility must go to Peter Costello as Treasurer.
Everyone also knows that the GFC stimulus saved hundreds of thousands of jobs and the reality is that in Australia we are currently cruising compared to most of the world.
I realise that this forum is just a haven for politically biassed talk and thats why I no longer spend much time here.
And yes good on Australia! A democratic, tolerant prosperous country of which I am a proud member. LiberaL, Labor,National, Greens, Family First and Independents all exercising their democratic rights in this wonderful country. Thankfully those that believe only one side should govern are very few and most Australians regardless who they vote for support the democratic outcome and want the government to deliver to its constituency.
