You clearly do not understand what War is. In World War 2 if the Japanese had not surrendered the War would have continued until there was no longer anyone capable of waging War for Japan. If people choose to go to War this is how it has to play out. It is not like a fight between a couple of kids in a playground. The allies kept going in Germany until the Germans surrendered. They killed tens of thousands and destroyed whole cities with fire. This is why Wars are as I described them. Hamas and Israel have declared War on each other and so it should not surprise anyone that innocents are being killed. It is no more disgusting than any other War mankind has engaged in since time began. Hamas some claim do not represent the Palestinian people and others disagree. It is irrelevant if you know anything about the rise of Hitler in Germany as there is a strong case to be made that he did not take power with the full support of the German people and that he maintained power by killing off any opposition. Today there are many examples of Governments that do not represent the will of the people. Vladimir Putin for example some would say holds power in a similar fashion. It certainly does not seem like a good career move to accept a nomination as an opposition leader in Russia under his system of Government. Both Russia and Ukraine have citizens who do not want to be at War with each other yet civilians are still dying. War is disgusting for all the reasons I have stated and is not the answer to problems but Wars will continue while ever individuals subscribe to the notion they can be nice events where only military combatants kill each other and if they kill someone else it is a war crime and they will be punished. How many young people would join up if in the recruiting posters it said if we go to War you will be required to kill civilians of all ages to cause the leaders of our enemy to finally submit and surrender. This however is the truth about War. FF.

That doesn't answer whst I asked. I asked about Israel and the Palestinians but it's broadly applicable. If war must have no rules, is there anything illegitimate about exterminating the opposing population in their entirety if it makes victory easier? For example, rather thsn sending soldiers to the Falklands in the early 1980's, would it have been legitimate for the British to have simply dropped nuclear bombs across the length and breadth of Argentina thus liberating the Falklands by exterminating the Argentinians?
