Only needs to be a couple of mm thick and yes just used around the edges.
It is self levelling to a degree but if you want mm accuracy I would still screed it.
Better of just paying a grand extra to get a level slab.
And square, I have mentioned on here before about a friend of mine who was a boiler maker doing the setout for a gang of concreters.
Perfectly square slabs.
Now if they set the boxing up to within a mm then laser level to a mm then all is good.
Its not that hard.
