I live in Australia, yet have 2/3 of my portfolio in TSX listed stocks in North America, Latin America and Africa. Theres just not a lot of value in Australia. Half the territories' permitting and regulation is too strict and slow, and the cost of building and operating here can be too high due to the fact that we import almost everything thanks to the government overregulating many local businesses out of existence.
By 'unscrupoulous financial onslaught,' you mean the consequence of raising rates from 0%-4.5%? Perhaps Aus got hooked on cheap money and now that the coke has gone and its time to pay the piper everyones now begging for more coke (rate cuts). Rates should never have been manged by the government, and in this situation, if they were to trade freely, should be much higher.
