@zbusc I have a friend who has been preaching at/to/above me now for well on 5 years - and 'the message' is no more attractive than when I was sitting in the confession box as a young (female) teenager being queried by a priest in a cassock whether i had unclean thoughts - after this sank in and a second try-out - i realised what a sham this whole Christian thing was - at age 16 I went to the office of my church and demanded my 'dismissal' - I despise priests, preachers of any kind -
which is not to say that I have a sense of pity, for example, this friend of mine, who has no-one else to preach to but me, has given up, has realised that having a human being who will listen to him is better than any printed, regurgitate truth on colourful pamphlets with gory pictures of the Whore of Babylon and the rest of the comic book types.

I still get weepy every Easter, remembering the sombre festival it was in my church - and having seen too many artful pictures of the crucifixion (I grew up in Europe, have seen many churches, many paintings of biblical scenes and, of course, the crucifixion) and still marvel at the belief of this mortal man that he was saving humanity by the cruelties performed on his body - still calling out for his Father - with his poor mother standing at the foot of the cross, weeping, wailing for her son.

It is a savage story, and so were the deeds executed by 'my people' on the Jews - and so are the deeds performed daily all over the world, many by men brought up as Christian.

I believe simple humanity, simple 'I love yous' now and then are a better idea.
