That in essence is the problem with this government. As Tim Walz observed you don't seek office to preserve political capital, you seek office to spend it. Whitlam might have lasted just 3 years, but you get the impression he got as much done as a 3 decade Albanese government might do. That's because Albanese has made the mistake (as Turnbull did before him) of binding himself to promises not to pursue reform. Successful leaders don't allow themselves to get hemmed in by all the things they've promised not to do.
