"Jack Mundy running Green Bans and injecting workers into areas arguably beyond their actual reason for existence.". ..... yes that was an interesting movement they headed. strong arguments on both sides of the equation. I recall my father claiming horror at the BLF exceeding their position too.

yet it was a community push that was being ignored by govt and the media. it gave the people a voice and resulted in a short term stay of execution while new homes were built for those so affected. as they should have done in the first place.

thats a good run down of the history. respect for your ability to succinctly tell such a history as well as for the learning. and yes the problems caused by both sides is also a reflection on the developments such politics took to understand the need for balance, with respect for those affected as well as for the economic benefits.

it mirrors the development of awareness of genuine social issues that have changed the whole nation such as the rise of feminism, the ban of child labour which was rife in the cities 100+ years ago (are you a fan of Henry Lawson perchance?), and the safety standards for workers as well as paying a 'living wage'.

according to what I've seen tonight, the problem with housing began around 23 years ago (Sukar). social housing construction was privatised, homes were sold with residents having first dibs but were not always successful, and construction of new properties slowed. and at the same time social housing residents were squeezed and portrayed by the govt as rorters.

so really its not surprising that homelessness has increased.

the 4 corners report tonight raised another issue of strata title apartment owners. did you see it? the main point I'd draw from that here tho is the problems left unrepaired by construction coys. while I appreciate the skills in engineering and construction of such buildings, it seems the problems are more severe and more common than have been reported in the media so far.
