NFI as usual Cherry. Town gas used in large towns and cities in Australia came exclusively from coal until the late 1960s. It was produced by the local gasworks from coal shipped or railed in and stored temporarily in 'gasometers'.
The first mainline diesel engines for hauling passenger and goods [i.e. freight] trains only arrived in Australia after WW2. Steam power was still in everyday common use on the railways until the late 1960s. Somewhat later in industry, when we still had heavy industry.
618 - You are correct. There is nothing wrong with Super in Australia. People typically are critical of it when younger. Retirement seems too far away to be bothered. About the same time most people need reading glasses, say early 40s, people suddenly become much more interested in the Super process and outcomes as their own retirement starts appearing like a smudge of smoke from a steam ship coming up over the distant horizon. Super is related to STX in the general sense of the large volumes of Super money flowing into the ASX and some of it being counter-productively used by borrowing Super Members' assets and shorting.
One thing Super most definitely is not. It's not some Ponzi scheme where people retiring are being paid out from new contributions. I.e. Boomers are not living off your Super contributions.
