G'day Westy. Reckon I was out your way a couple of weeks back. Stayed in sunny (yet chilly) Camden for a bit, trying to eat the Crown Hotel out of scotch fillets. An expensive project with a lot of promise, yet doomed to failure. Hopefully not what we're looking at with FE hey. Heheh.

Anyway, yes, science and engineering work hand in hand a lot of the time but there is a profound difference between the two, especially for us investors.

The scientist might think he's onto a winner but he's like your prospector, still looking for the strike. He may never work out the issue or he may come up against one of the big rules of physics that can't be broken. There's a lot of hope involved in backing him.

The engineer has the job of actualising the science. Yes, he is a scientist in part. He has to be to understand the pure science guy's output. He also needs to know the environment and its restrictions that it will place on his solution. But principally, he differs from the scientist because he is starting from a position of "yes, this is at least technically possible" and often "this is kinda what it should look like". Now, instead of us waiting for a scientist to have his light bulb moment which may never occur, we are instead seeing a team of people refining that idea to the point where it can work in reality. Thats much more likely to succeed.

As an aspiring investor and also as what someone on these pages termed a "wage cuck" (lol) I'm not a huge fan of science companies. I can't afford to take the chance or wait. Engineering puzzles? Sure, I'll take a look.
