I wonder if catalyst for all this came with Panasonic announcing next generation Tesla 4680 batteries will be mass produced and 20% as efficient. That means Panasonic will need 20% less materials and save 20%costs to produce equivalent to same range in current batteries in Tesla.
I remember when battery grade used to be SC6 anything less had hard time. But after so many experts and endless articles pushing prices down so much no one is willing to produce SC6, some selling battery grade @ 4.7 SC. I wonder what the life of the batteries are before they need to be replaced.
In My Opinion, I guess it is time for China to get back to planning and catch up before Panasonic and Tesla run away with it. Because if Tesla batteries could last 20 odd years even with range drops, China cannot compete with having to change batteries every 8 years.
At current commodity prices it is possible to make EV batteries with decent rage less than $3000. So pointless to bring prices down further and break the system when China is so much reliant on EV .
