No wonder Newmont have been playing it so close to their chest. And interestingly, that gives theem optionality if Greatland does prove Parklands up to be the next Monster. They might decide to take it all back perhaps? A bet each way??
I had a bit of an insight into the thinking of Newmont a while back chatting to one of their top geos. The corporate accountants don't like, exploration and just want to monetise anything that isn't making major cash-flow. The technical guys want to keep making big gold discoveries (usual corporate tension). The optionality presented by this deal appears to at least partly satisfy both. Either way, it is good for AZY!
