Brahms was befriended by Miskolc (Hungary) born Eduard Hoffman, a Hungarian composer/violinist. Hoffman changed his name to Ede Remenyi and toured with Brahms but later the two parted ways.
Remenyi later became solo violinist to Britain's Queen Victoria.
It was the Hungarian influences via Remenyi of gypsy music that led Brahms to compose 2 sets of Hungarian Dances - the first set in 1869 and the second in 1880.
