The cook and I have been on an extended holiday overseas since June15. It's about to end. She's totally over it now, I'm not, I'm the Explorer. We are flying out of LA tomorrow and back to the real world in Aus.

Back in June, we flew into Heathrow, didn't book a hire car in advance and was allocated a Tesla through Europecar at an exorbitant fee. It was the last car left.
So, I took what I could get. The booking clerk said "spend a few minutes, you'll figure it out" Picture this, just flew in from Perth, am jet lagged as f@#k, trying to figure out how to drive a carcomputer. I managed it with the help of a yardy bloke from another hire car firm!

After learning to drive it, I was impressed. Loved it, didn't want to give it back. From memory, I could do about 210 miles before juicing it up and the hire company picked up the tab. I was on the look out for the charge stations all the time. The English have generally set up 16 charge points, at each of their designated charge areas and the Tesla tells you where to find them.

Later on, I hired an ICE car for a week in Scotland. Loved Scotland and got stung with the cost of that car. Scotland was expensive for everything, but beautiful.

On 5/8, we flew into Miami from Oslo. The 10 hour flight was followed by 2 hours shuffling the feet to progress through border control (apparently that's normal). Then to Hertz for a pre-booked l/hand drive hire car. More learning. Had not driven one of those on a public road before. I had driven them at underground mines before though. I was still shi#@%thing myself. In Australia, years of driving wires the brain to driving on the left hand side. So each time, before starting to drive, I had to do a brain re-set to drive on the right side of the road. We did 20000km, had a few close calls and just gave the second car back yesterday.

I posted earlier, about how many Teslas we have been seeing in the states and Canada. In Florida, there were quite a few. In Los Angeles, around the same. Very few and far in all the other places we have been in the past 41 days. The price of regular fuel in California is about a US$1/gallon more than the rest of America and it would affec the decision to upgrade. I think Florida has more millionaires per head of population and they can afford to update their ICE cars to Electric.

    Been a lot of fun!
