Rick Rule is a legend for sure and always worth a listen. He often talks about how he looks for the unloved sectors and then within that unloved sector he looks for those rare companies that spend the money wisely rather than a board which keeps rewarding themselves shares or over pays themselves for the job they are supposed to be doing! A good strategy...but not easy finding these companies, especially in West Perth!

Rick will also rate stocks in your portfolio, so I tried this (see his response below. From this you can see he was looking more towards uranium as it was a very unloved commodity which was starting to become unloved again). He must get a lot of people emailing him but he did eventually get back to me. He ranks them from 1-10 with 1 being the best (given the volume of emails I wouldn't be surprised if it is a minion of his replying...but he does say he does the ranking personally). Here's his rankings of the stocks I asked him about. His reply was 23rd March 2024 when SPR was mid 50c.... As much as I respect him...he didn't quite nail this lot. We all know what Spartan has done but he also missed CYL. I know for a fact Rick knows of CYL because when he was in Victoria checking out the Fosterville mine he took a look at what CYL was finding 50km away from Fosterville. CYL shareprice back then was 65c and it closed on Friday at $2.67 and that price has been due to production at Henty in Tasmania and the Plutonic Gold Mine in WA, so does not factor their project in Victoria. When they eventually get their teeth into Victoria, CYL could be anything. I encourage people reading this to look back at CYL exploration drilling in Vic....the grades are eye watering!

It's been a great year for both SPR and CYL and loooong may it continue!

And lastly, for what its worth, from that list, keep an eye on RDM....and I would add LTP though it's not a mining stock..but worth a look

These rankings are numerical, 1-10, with 1 being best. Note that the criterion is risk-adjusted reward, so that higher risk companies may still enjoy a more favourable ranking than lower risk companies, although they may be less suitable for individual portfolios.
