Well worth a read . As a 61 year old , I’m just old enough to have seen mechanisation change the building industry dramatically . Bobcats , excavators , backhoes , etc , reduced dramatically the number of labourers that were required . When I started , we dug all our foundations by hand , the plumbers dug all their drains ( sometimes metres deep ) by hand . It was bloody hard work . I honestly can’t imagine a 16 year old today ( my age when I started ) digging trenches for 2 wcan’t eeks , all day every day . Not only would it be expensive , Labor costs are huge but it would reduce their mobile phone use too much . It feels to me that this coming change is going to be bigger than mechanisation . Now , back to my first comment , labourers not required . Will we get to a stage where people with limited education ( not an insult , some of the best workers I have known were almost illiterate ) can never get a job ? That would be incredibly sad but I reckon it’s coming .Will this divide our society even further ? Again , I reckon ! I think that dynamic might be as difficult as managing the technology ?
