You're speaking in shorthand.
Jesus was the Teacher of a new religion, a new way to be human in a moral and social sense. He renewed the Teachings of Moses and all those other Teachers before Him. He was the Word in His dispensation, but there will always be new Words from age to age.
Word does not literally mean word. It has a far more expansive meaning which includes the spirit of the age, the progressive revelation of God's plan for humanity, the push towards establishing heaven on earth.
