@RM The Bible is now how many hundred or thousands of years old - or rather the Old Testament etc. and all its offshoots?
I rate the 'stories' from the Bible as morality tales, which have been helpful in keeping certain tribes of people civilised, healthy, surviving - and often God smites their enemies - so not much talk of Love Thy Brother, when looking across the border! - Jesus was modern compared to what's in the Bible
Jesus Christ was so successful, or rather his teachings were, because there were so many disaffected, imposed upon, enslaved people in the ancient world, beginning with women and all the human spoils from the endless conquering wars the Romans conducted - so the preachings of Jesus found a willing audience. To the soldier, statesman, 'society' Roman it was a religion for slaves with a lowly morality, but because of the sheer numbers of disempowered, enslaved people, Christianity eventually found willing adherents. Kindness is also innate in human nature and found little expression in the codes of the ancient world; so there was a hunger for kindness - and it seems much like in today's world, when you look at the numbers of mental diseases - all cureable with patience, kindness and love, yet we seem to fall short in all three.

I feel we now need a different philosophy/religion - the old have outlived their usefulness - and Christianity has taken part in shaping our philosophies, our abilities for kindness etc. - but we have very different problems now. We need to re-discover our love for this earth and its creatures, we need to become simpler, more loving, less belligerent, less neurotic - an Christianity does not seem to fit the bill anymore.
We need to discover, if we are to be the true lords of this our world given to us by an ancient G.d - that we need to learn to caretake of it.

Are we doing this? I think not.

Humankind seems to need another spiritual growth spurt of developing a universal consciousness for all living things, above all, we need to learn to love and appreciate all of ourselves, all of mankind. Do we need another horrible war, to open our eyes to that simple solution?

But of course, you will keep on talking about events which happened long ago and are neither here nor there in the present, where we need people of goodwill and strong character to cure all of us of the lowly vices mankind is still saddled with, despite thunderous pronouncements by Gods in Flaming bushes and white-bearded impotent Prophets, all gone to dust now.
    Think!
