    Ian sorry but disagree.

Converting gas to liquids only a relativly new process only 30 or so years old however their are standard rates for the conversion.

Your call at 30,000 cubic feet to 1 barrel of oil is wrong.

Ever been in a bus ? In Sydney ? They run on LNG.

Now the cost of setting up a LNG facitity is heavy on the starting end but the LNG converted is ready for use by the consumer at the other end and prices and energy efficiency are exactly the same as similar products. There is no loss of anything like you are suggesting.

One barrel of oil is 159 litres. When refined it produces a myriad of products. Just under half is petrol as we know it. When looking at crude, it has to be refined before use into the sub products. Petrol, distalate, av gas ect.

GAS turned into LNG is refined and ready for use. The gas you put into the gas bottle is in fact LNG not natuaral gas.

Conversion rate is 6,000 cubic feet of gas converts into a barrel of oil equivilant. Becuase with LNG being already processed when it arrives it is 100% usuable as opposed to crude which needs to be refined.

This equation works out in BTU production as well as any other measure you care to name.

The conversion rate is a well known and used industry standard. In fact it is getting even better with improvements in refinery processes.

So a gas field of 6 trillion cubic feet
equals 6,000 mm cubic feet of gas
    or 1,069,709 KBOE
or 1.0697 billion barrels of oil ....

Hence the rate of 6,000 cubic feet per barrel I used.

Its in fact 5,609 cubic feet per barrel.

I have included the KBOE as this is an exact measure of energy produced by any fuel.

Here is a link since you still probally wont believe me ...

    Cheers
