You are just making a common error.
the price has increased by 9c (5c to 14c)
Your claim that the price increased 300% (or 280%) is incorrect.
The price increased 9c divided by the starting price of 5c which is 180%.
I will put a simple example so all may follow
If I have 1 apple then get 2 more I have increased my apple holdings by 200% (2) not 300% (3)
