such people don't sound too "innocent" to me.
the "innocent" card is still being played by some. TPTB invent a money system to encourage people to kill each other, then reward them with war medals or a pat on the back (let's not mention the depleted uranium) they can even get people to believe that they are acting on behalf of some all powerful (but lazy) god.
it's nothing new, it's possible for some children to see the seeds of such self organising systems at primary school level.
