Agreed on the general sentiment but its typical RK blinkers for their clients around Winsome being an exception. Winsome's scoping study used SC5.5 not SC6 as their product to which to use a price estimate of US$1,375/t. A simple grade adjustment back to SC6.0 takes the price used to US$1,500/t. Further than that, Winsome's case did not fully address the post mine-gate transportation costs and simply assumed that US$1,500/t (SC6) was the price receivable for concentrate located FoB Quebec not CIF China as is applicable for the quoted market indicies.
If Winsome were to get into production in the 2020's its unclear that there will be Hydroxide conversion capacity built in the North America's by that time. They are likely to need to transport product to Asia for at least the first few years of production. Based on PLL/SYA comments recently on the cost of transportation, its unlikely to be much if anything below US$100/t to ship to Asia meaning their scoping study was really done on SC6.0 (CIF China) of approx. US$1,600/t. RK know this stuff so I can only assume they intended to be misleading with the statement made.
