A mate and I spent Monday/Tuesday at Woods Point last week. We met some of the staff/miners at the pub on Monday evening and Max Towe, the foreman, showed us around the (surface) mine site on Tuesday morning and the Gecko plant and how it works. Nice piece of equipment.
Although it had been extremely wet in Victoria over the previous few days there was no problem getting to WP and there was lots of work happening at the mine site whilst we were there. As mentioned previously, most of the miners live within several hundred metres (and one actually at the mine).
The mine itself is reached by what looks like an all weather road (from town) and the mine is on a sort of plateau halfway down a slope with excellent drainage to Morningstar Creek below the site.
Apparently there are approximately 20 or so mine workers on site and whilst we were there additional Gecko staff were testing and fine tuning their plant operation (presumably specifically to handle MCO ore and prior to handover for production). Everything seemed to be in place and just about ready to go.
To summarise: At the mine surface adverse weather does not seem to be a problem. Can't say about in the mine itself.
