You might be right and it's nothing to do with index entries. And perhaps it's the hopium that people (me included) have that entry to an index will lead to a glut of funds buying and sending the SP north. NEU was the most recent example I can think of inclusion leading to sweet FA, and then a small decline - prior to some P2 results which trumped everything, then a drift south again..
