Hello @cowcockle, We have been farmers for decades, until we sold up about 2 1/2 years ago. We have bred all sorts of animals, including cattle.
In England we had a totally organic farm, also growing vegetables for large supermarkets.
So I must apologise if I am somewhat biased.
If they were just grain fed, that would sit ok with me, or lupins etc for protein.
We used to house our cattle undercover during the winter, otherwise they would ruin the paddocks.
Obviously we had to feed them, but we never used processed pellets. We made silage, fed hay and grains.
As we grew many potatoes and root vegetables they had plenty of those.
I understand that Australia is totally different.
Personally I would prefer grass fed beef. But I can see why feedlots are used here.
So no disrespect to you.
When we first moved over here, you could buy a large lot of rump steak and it would melt in your mouth.
But for several years now, it is as tough as old boots and I have to stew it.
Where does all the good beef go?
The supermarket meat is not good.
Perhaps you know why.
