I thought this part of an article in the news today was worth noticing

"Wind and solar farms will stay where they are and will be upgraded as technology improves in the decades ahead," they said.
The spokesperson said the state's oldest turbines, built in 1997 on Thursday Island, had recently received a $2 million refurbishment, extending their life for another 15 years.

That means a working life of a windfarm of minimum of 39 years --

39 ish years for a wind farm - that shouldn't need subsidies for the entire time -

solar and wind are very cheap to construct in comparison to coal fired or hydro or heaven forbid - nuclear

and about 40 years of working life ---------- that's pretty good

in 40 years from now - my guess is that we won't be talking about wind or solar - we'll have some kind of magic working that will make most of us happy
