Why would Hancock needs STX? Because WE gas is far more advanced in terms of development than MIN's resources. The gas resource there isn't even independently certified yet. See my comments on this from yesterday...
Hancock buying MIN will not stop them from wanting STX's gas. Scale and critical mass is the key ingredient to success in resource sector as it lowers the unit cost of production. Why would Hancock be happy with 2C of 71mmBOe that it will still have to prove up and get certified when she can press go on developing 66mmBOe of 2P at WE right now?
One can look at almost every situation from different viewpoint. Half glass full or empty, hopeful or hopeless, optimistic or pessimistic, etc
