A group of armed neo-nazi thugs threatening the president discouraging him from fulfilling his election promises?
Seems a little undemocratic.
Did the wider Ukrainian population get any say in this at all?
And there's that name again.
Dmytro Yarosh.
This is the same guy that sabotaged the agreement between Yanukovich and the opposition to settle the protests back in 2014.
If we consider that the CIA has had a decades-long history working with Ukrainian far-right groups, it is highly likely that Yarosh was one of their tools that they relied on to escalate the conflict.
Who thought that the escalation of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine would end well for the rest of Ukraine back in 2014-2015?
I sure didn't. And I'm not exactly a political scientist. So whatever Ukrainian politician was responsible for the decision to escalate, certainly knew, or at least had some idea, on what the results could be.
I don't consider Ukrainians as stupid. But the fact that the Ukrainian government has to approve almost every major decision they make with US, UK an EU means that they aren't exactly independent. And if they are not independent, how can they be acting out of their own interest, when their government actions mostly rely on foreign advice?
This is the exact situation that Yanukovich was trying to save Ukraine from. A situation where Ukrainian government decisions are dictated by an external party. Which is exactly why Yanukovich declined to sign the EU association agreement. Because it essentially meant that the control of the Ukrainian economy would be handed over to external parties.
The Russian offer didn't come with any strings attached. All they offered was a massive loan and a substantial gas discount. I'm sure you've come across one of my posts mentioning that $10bn deal that Yanukovich signed with Royal Dutch Shell in 2013?. The Russians didn't mind that for some reason.
