yes there are trends -------------- cyclones have a clear trend from what I've read many times -
frequency is less. Which is exactly what was predicted by many climate models -
less frequency, but a higher ratio of severe in the ones that occur.
Which appears to be holding for northern hemisphere - very clearly.
One of the things of interest to me is how the intensity of recent storms - only in the very recent past ----------- the acceleration of intensity - the rate at which some of these hurricanes are going from nothing - to severe - often in 24 hours.
I've seen several people who know climate and weather science who have had a 'where did that come from' reaction to how fast and out of what seems not much - intense storms come from - only recently.
