There was no Ukraine or Ukrainians during Kievan Rus times. Kievan Rus consisted of many different tribes and ethnicities spread across a certain territory. They mixed and moved around.
The term "Ukrainians" didn't come into existence till much later.
Ukrainian national identity only started forming a couple of centuries ago (if that).
Ukraine did not exist as a separate, independent, sovereign state until 1991.
