I must take exception to your suggestion of corruption. Baksheesh is normal business practice in many parts of the world. Did I say many? I meant all. How do you categorise armies of corporate lawyers lobbying US senators and congressmen. The epitome of democracy? Hardly. Institutionalised corruption would be nearer the mark.
At least when you give a man a brown paper bag full of money, you know where it's going and what it's for. Remember, an honest politician is one who, when you buy him, stays bought.
