Ponting is still a great bat. Don't write off champions like him.
As Ian Chappell said just before on the commentary, he's batting well, just getting out early.
If you've played any cricket at all, you would know how that can happen. I played for years and had those periods year in year out....lol.
Clarke is not suitable as next captain imo. I would go to Hussey (although I'm not sure if he possesses a great cricket brain??) or Haddin, and wait for some new guy to emerge in the next year or two.
In the meantime, Ponting has been a great player for us, and deserves more than being rubbished because we're being outplayed and he's not performing as he would dearly love to. Ponting hates losing more than anyone does, and unfortunately I believe he's placing undue pressure on himself.
Test cricket is a tough arena in which to try to regain form once you have a few cheap outs. Pressure comes from all sorts of directions.
