    Yowler... Nice post...

CTL is big in South Africa... During apartheid the world removed there access to oil... Obviously this is a key reason why it is commercial viable over there...

"South Africa has been producing coal-derived fuels since 1955 and has the only commercial coal to liquids industry in operation today"

    http://www.worldcoal.org/coal/uses-of-coal/coal-to-liquids/

Notably CTL produces massive amounts of Carbon above ground...

    - CTL - Often reffered too as a massive carbon producer with a side effect of oil...

    - UCTL - Is yet to be proven underground or above ground for that matter (RER)... Probably end up producing snake oil...

    - UCG GTL - Im not saying won't work... Only that LNC have not been able to do it on a commercial scale just yet...

For all 3 of the above... There are plenty of alternative coal fields thar are much closer to infrastructure and are not flooded for 6 months of the year etc etc...

Notably CTL requires the coal to be mined and processed above ground... Sort of end up back at square one again where you have to mine the coal...
