Yes we need to become more sophisticated in our laws but IMO, the general Australian population needs to accept that the People smugglers are akin to the Heroin smugglers. We need to accept this as a modern fact. Hopefully, everyone will learn now that it is not the refugees fault - it is the organiser's fault on the Indonesian mainland. We don't altogether blame the heroin addicted but come hard at the traffickers - the same should apply with the refugees and the businessmen who lead people astray where the desperate lose their lives. The cost of receieving refugees is negligible but the human cost of them setting out here is immeasurable, headed only by the organisers of this crime. Nip it in the bud and send a strong message to Indonesia so they pluck them out one by one and lock them up is my opinion. I am fairly sure covert operations are already underway to do this. You know it makes sense. I'm fluffynymph.
