I?m not going to defend AM and co but I also think shareholders have to claim responsibility for their investments. Looking back in hindsight OZL had a significant amount of CAPEX and with no hedging was exposed to a commodity downturn, which was in motion well before OZL went into a trading halt. BUT?. Back to AM and co, I think the worst oversight was paying a 100m+ dividend when commodity prices were on the way down an PH was far from finished. From a bankers perspective, this would have indicated not only arrogance but poor capital management so no wonder they wanted their money. We can only thank Wayne Swan for intervening!
