You're not getting it.
There are external factors outside of management that affect performance.
These are factors that all companies in the same industry have to contend with generally.
It might be construction demand in resources, weather in agriculture, birth rates in IF. The point is they are industry specific and management cannot control them, they can only control how they respond.
It is completely illogical to judge management by comparing companies in different industries. If one industry is experiencing favourable market conditions and the other is not, this obviously skews the comparison. It tells you nothing about management itself.
If SP is all that matters to you, then you need to compare against industry peers. Comparing apples and oranges will get you nowhere.
