From what I understand, Apollo have very strong connections/clients who are responsible for very large institutional mandates.
Modern portfolio theory today will have you place 10% of your portfolio in the asset class of 'Alternative Assets'.
Apollo did not have an offering in this space. Now it can financially benefit from its holding in just such a solution....as will all the shareholders of HFA.
This marriage has been a long time in the making. I believe we will see a number of interesting deals in quick succession take the FUM to a very large number.
