My sympathy to you lautrec on the passing of your fluffy bundle. Life changes every time we lose a pet. 9 is not old for a cat.
Tangrams, I've had a crazy week with house guests etc, but kept an eye on him and decided that he was behaving normally in all other ways, but I finally got him to the vet today, with dog in tow for moral support. They are very close :-)
His bladder is normal and the vet thought that he's probably just irritated from the treatment and gave him a couple of different anti-inflammatory injections. Whew. I was thinking that this is becoming a very expensive cat (add previous history of gouged eyeball, abscecces etc) but I guess the vet bill is insignificant compared to horses when they need medical treatment!
