    We normally agree but not on this. May I ask that you consider another perspective.

    It is important our politicians lead by setting policy and appointing people to lead in the field. It is not a politicians role to lead in the control room during a disaster.

    Such leadership belongs to trined professionals who have a great deal of specific experience and training. Having a pollie present confuses the chain of command and is a useless distraction.

    The worst thing possible is to have an ex union official, teacher, activist or lawyer start issuing operational orders.

    Similarly politicians who use these occasions as photo props to fly over are just exploiting the situation for political gain. If they have a publicity function they should do it from a studio (without shoulder goons) not distract those on the job.
