This is what interested me from the 1st Fastmarkets article. Output of graphite flake fines in China accounts for approximately 85% of the total crystalline graphite production, while the output of all the large graphite flakes accounts for 15%, sources told Fastmarkets.
I'd love to know the kt 85% and 15% represent. Comparing %'s can be tricky if you don't know what's behind them.
In 2021 is was around 25% fines and the price of -100 mesh fines was 70%-80% of the price of +100 mesh, the next size up not 40%-50% today (less than half).
We're told natural only accounts for 10% of the anode. In 2021 it was 40%. Either the Chinese are mining a lot of fines or large size flake demand has fallen off a cliff. Something is off or the graphite market is being massively manipulated by the Chinese in both price and the quantity mined to meet geopolitical objectives
