Someone who posts on an investment website should have a deeper understanding of concepts.
WBC (ie. the company) has never lost $40B. In fact, the company, in any reporting period has never lost a cent.

Investors who decided to purchase a bank share @ ~ a PE of 22, at a particular narrow peak in history, 10 years ago, would have a realisable investment loss of ~$27B in aggregate, if they had held them to this day (ie. the price of that week in April 15 less current price, x # issued shares).
For those investors who overpaid at the time, it's a cruel adult world, and Mr Market eats mugs.....so easy come, easy go.

But to continually rattle your jaws around this '40', which is mathematically incorrect to start with, and based off this overpriced sliver of history a decade ago, just validates my original point around your exhibitionist motivation.

In fact, to bring facts back to a historical perspective that is far more pertinent to those on this discussion site, had you invested in WBC when Peter King was appointed, you would be sitting on a capital gain of ~80-90%.

A far more modern and relevant lens, I'm sure you'd agree.
