I read up on this. There is definitely no need to send the entire length and width of the drilled cores. Whoever thinks that really needs to do some research.
Like anything science based, a laboratory only requires ‘sub-samples’ from a number of areas. The core is cut in half. They can do at scene in situ analysis using various techniques / equipment, and ‘log’ the cores as per recognised recording principles, before sending off samples. This is why I did the whole road train joke. Scientists do not have the time to analyse 2,240 metres of drilled out cores, let alone the eventual aim of 15,000m.
