The rool Julia ended up leading her party to a 38% primary vote, down from 43% under the man she had just deposed.
Abbott's lot was a higher primary vote and the result a hung parliament.
Gallard's achievement was not to win an election but convince a couple of men with a deep seated dislike for the Libs/nats that she would give them more.
That she and her first term party were ever in that position speaks volumes about what people were thinking.
A success? Hardly. Survival? Only just from the man they wrote off as a nobody starting from scratch without a chance ... yes she was that bad.
