Been through many a big storm at sea, the last and one of the worse was when we were heading back to Fremantle from the Gulf of Carpentaria. We got around North West Cape change course to head south and there ploughing head on into huge waves crashing over the wheel house, it was like we where under water half the time
It was a decent size trawler at 86ft long and about 10m from waterline to top of the wheel house so waves would have to be plus 15m high, the rise and fall of the boat was such that it was creating a vacuum and sucking water through the water tight vents into the galley. It was 4 days of that, I was either in the wheel house hanging on struggling to stay on my seat or in bed where my body was just about raising off bed.
LOL Skipper/owner spent most of that time in bed left it to me to navigate, while I had some crew do some watches so I could get some sleep I felt the need to be at the wheel myself most of the time
