Low end call as posted HD previous for sure surprised me when was broken with my data read being far from bearish. Donald Trump and Robert F Kennedy. Commentary on the effect of their appointment is endless. Interpretation of available information subjectively biased depending on where information was source. I have trust issues with the market at the best of times but they are near nonexistent at present. Time will be my judge and jury.
Other than reasons above as explanation for current price movements I am also looking at the upcoming MSCI rebalance. I am also looking at the abnormal trading patterns attributable to global passive index tracking traders during the August rebalance. This was abnormal because significantly abnormal returns are generally confined to official index additions and deletions. Occurring at a time when global market expectations had priced in multiple USA rate cuts in August the impact was sector wide.
Three months on and investors are now demanding more compensation for their exposure to risk as rates remain high. From an analytical perspective I see the unwinding of some of those previous August placements underway. I see this in some of the trading volumes and price movements and the volume distributions.
