NO GO FOR OFFSHORE GAS

An exploratory drilling operation off the coast of Newcastle has failed to find any gas.
Advent Energy spent the past few weeks drilling about 55 kilometres off the coast using the rig, Ocean Patriot.
The well will now be capped and the rig is likely to head to new exploration fields off northern Australia.
While disappointed, the company says it has gathered valuable data on potential gas reserves in the Sydney Basin, and will consider further exploration.
